Oxfam by Babanuki

Another Film Company’s directing duo Babanuki have created a campaign for Oxfam International to highlight the issue of climate change. Celebrities from the world of film and television took time out to appear in the clips that bring a lively and engaging approach to the topic. They say "We wanted to make something that could attract people not already sold on the issue."

Timed to coincide with the Copenhagen conference in December 2009, Oxfam's campaign aimed to send a message to both leaders and the public about the importance of positive action in avoiding climate chaos. In response to this Babanuki and Oxfam worked together to produce two scripts; one full of Good Ideas and the other Bad Ideas.

"There's a lot of misinformation not only about the science behind climate change but also the practicalities of fixing the problem," says Babanuki's Tom, "these films are an attempt to draw a line between what's wise and what's bunkum; good ideas over bad!".

"We were surprised at the abandon with which the celebrities threw themselves into the Bad Ideas script." says Ian, "It's not everyday you get Heather Graham to hold her breath and pull funny faces at you that's for sure."

In bringing the ideas to life Babanuki collaborated with animator Azusa Nakagawa to create the hand drawn environments in which the participants appear. They say "It's the opposite of a celebrity fronted, white background PSA. We need some imaginative solutions to the problem, so it made sense to us putting the ideas on screen."

Andy Carroll at Soundfly composed the themes to both spots and also assembled the cartoon-style audio mix.
